"Drum" by Andy
My mother and I started out with a coffee can. We cut
off both ends and wrapped white paper around it. We cut two
circular pieces of vinyl to fit over both ends. After
punching holes in the vinyl with eyelets, we stretched it
over the ends of the coffee can. We used twine to thread
through the eyelets and draw it tight. We finished the drum
in about two hours. Sound is produced : Skin (vinyl) that is stretched
across a hollow object. The dynamics change depending on how hard or how soft
you hit it. When you tighten the drum skin the pitch is higher.
When you loosen the drum skin the pitch is lower. The timbre is airy.
