The Coffee Can Jam

By Andi

My percussion instrument is called the Coffee Can Jam. My instrument took a lot of materials to make. To make a sound I bang on my instrument with sticks.

To make my instrument I used 5 coffee cans, 5 rubber bands, rubber plastic, a piece of plyboard, paint, super glue, sticks, and a stamper. First I had to paint the coffee cans really good. Then I painted the plyboard. Next I put the rubber on the cans and the rubber bands on the rubber. Then I glued the cans on the board. Next I stamped the stars on and let it dry. That is how I made my instrument.

I make the sound by pounding on the drums with sticks. I can change the pitch by pounding on different sized cans. I change the volume by pounding on it hard or softly. The pitch changes because the cans are different sizes.

I learned that making an instrument is very long and hard work. I enjoyed painting the instrument because it is something I like to do.
