To create my Mystical Elfin Chimes my father cut the wood and I helped by sanding each block. My mom helped me stain each block with a mahogany stain. After the stain dried, my mom helped me tune them. Together, my mom and I placed the blocks in the twine, stapled the twine to each block and decorated them.

My chimes are a percussion instrument. Sound is created when I use the mallet to strike the individual blocks. The sound resonates through the blocks.

To create a higher sound I need to strike a shorter block. To create a lower sound I need to strike a longer block. The sound is louder when I strike the chimes hard and the sound is softer when I gently strike them.
