"The Alaskan Drum"

My instrument is a drum. I made it out of a 6 1/2 inch by 6 inch coffee can. My dad helped me make it. First I got an animal skin from my grandfather. Next my dad bought cocoa brown felt and a long red leather string.

Once I had gathered all my materials, my dad and I wet the animal skin and the leather string in water. We then stretched the skin over the top of the coffee can and fastened it with the leather string.

While it was drying my dad and I cut the felt to fit on the coffee can. For decoration we put an extra piece of leather string.

The sound of my drum is produced by tapping with my hands on the top of my drum. The dynamics of sound changes when I tap hard or soft on the top of the drum.
