The instrument I made is called the Arrow
Xylophone. The sound is made by the hollow insides
of the arrows.
When the long arrows are tapped you get a
high sound. When the short arrows are tapped you get a
low sound.
For the arrows to stay in place you have to have
the wood at different lengths. The way we made
this is I measured the arrows. Dad cut them with his
arrow cutter. I measured the wood and Dad cut it. Dad
drilled the holes with the drill. I cut and placed
the fuzz. This helps with the tuning. Dad screwed the
nails.
The pitch can be changed by the size of the arrows.
The dynamics can be changed by the way I hit the arrows.
To me the arrow xylophone sounds like wind
chimes in the summer breeze or birds in the trees in
spring.
