The Blue Jay Triangle

by Ryanne M

My instrument's name is the  Blue Jay Triangle.  My Dad helped me with my instrument.

My Dad and I went to the store and bought a 30 inch piece of half inch metal rod and a can of  both blue and yellow spray paint. We went out to my Dad's shop and put the metal  rod in a vise.  I measured out the dimensions of eight inches.

My Dad first cut one end on a sixty degree angle and then he used a cutting torch to  heat up the metal. I helped end the metal on the three marks by using the device.  The last bend had to be bent up to make a hook.  Then my Dad cut off the extra rod and drilled a hole inthe hook.  Dad then cut off the extra rod and drilled a hole in the hook and put the string in.

Then we taped it off in sections, and I spray painted one half blue, and the other half yellow.   Dad found a metal stake to use as a triangle stick, and I painted that blue and  yellow also.  It took a couple of days for the paint to completely dry.

To produce sound, I just tap  the triangle with the triangle stick. To make the dynamics loud, I just tap the triangle hard. To make the dynamics soft, I tap it gently.   To get a high pitch, I hit it with the end of the triangle stick.  To get a low pitch, I hit it with my hand closer to the end of the triangle stick.  I also get different pitches by hitting  different sides of the  triangle.
