by Garrett V. My instrument is called the 'Pied Piper's' flute. My Dad
helped me make it. He let me choose what pipe to use. After
I chose the pipe I measured it and put it in a vice and he
let me cut it with a hacksaw (supervised, though) to the
correct length. My Dad got a cork from my Aunt and Uncle and
I sanded it to fit in the flute. After I did that I marked
where to drill the finger holes. My Dad let me drill the
holes with a drill press. Then I measured where to cut the
aperture, and then I cut it with a coping saw. The flute did not make any sound, so I had to make
another flute and I reused the cork. Sound is produced by blowing into the flute. I have to
keep my lips pursed so no air escapes. I have to keep the
flute angled down. I also use the finger-holes to change the
pitch and create vibrato. I blow into the flute to make
noise. I blow into it hard to make a loud dynamics. To make
a soft dynamics, I blow lightly. To make a high pitch I put
my fingers on the top holes. To make a low pitch I put my
fingers on the bottom finger holes. The timbre is high and
shrill.
