The Rhythm of the Fish

by Carey S.

I picked this instrument because I thought it would be a fun instrument to make.  I went to the store and bought a wastebasket, electrical tape and a shower cap.  Then I cut out the shower cap and put it on the top of my drum.  I put tinfoil under the drum to make more noise.  Then I taped the shower cap down by putting electrical tape around the edge.

Then my mom gave me the idea of putting a stick and a hook on my drum so I did.  I got three can rings from the kitchen.  I asked my dad if he could drill a hole in the stick, which is a back scratcher.  My dad held the stick while I drilled a hole in the stick.  Then I got wire from our desk drawer.  I wired the three can rings around the stick.  Then I wrapped white electrical tape around the top of the drum.

The drum looked like water so I got on the internet and went to clip art and printed some fish.  I cut out the fish and glued them around the drum.  Then I came up with waves so I cut out waves out of blue painters tape.  I named my instrument the Rhythm of the Fish.

The dynamics are loud if you hit the drum hard and soft if you hit it lightly.  The can rings have a high pitch and the drum has a low pitch.  The can rings timber is like keys jingling and the drum sounds like a heart beat.  This instrument is produced by hitting the drum with my drum stick.
