By: Kjerstin L. My instrument is called, "The Thunder Drums." My dad and I went to go pick up Bob G. and ßwent to Jo-Ann Fabrics to get some vinyl cloth. Once I picked out my color the lady cut it for us and Bob, Dad and I went back to Bob's shop. In the shop I found PVC pipe, then I put the PVC pipe in a vice and measured it to size. Bob put a big pipe cutter on the pipe and I sprayed silicon on the pipe to help it cut the pipe in half. Then I went to the next machine called the automatic pipe cuter. The automatic pipe cutter cuts the smaller pipes. Then I went to the drill press and that puts holes into the small pipe pieces. Then I drilled holes in the vinyl cloth and the PVC pipe. There are eight holes in all four of the drums to attach the vinyl tops. Then I put eight rivets in the holes and I used the rivet gun. My dad and I put the drums together using the smaller PVC pipe, bolts, washers and nuts. My dad and I were going to make legs but Edward, our neighbor, came up with a strap. I like to call it the Edward strap. To change the Dynamics I hit the drums harder or softer. For Loud Dynamics I hit the drums harder, for Soft Dynamics I hit them softer. For High Pitch I hit the smaller drum. For Low Pitch I hit the larger drum. I hit different spots on the head of the drum to change the Pitch. The Timbre of my instrument is deep and muffled. Sometimes the Timbre even sounds like rain on the roof. |
