Holly Jolly Shakers   by Eddie S.   My instrument is called the Holly Jolly Shakers. I got the idea for making my instrument from the Christmas decorations around the house. My instrument belongs to the percussion family. One interesting thing about my instrument is the beading around it adds to the sound as well as the beauty of the instrument.   To make my instrument I used the following materials: a small coffee can, dry chick peas, rice, metallic wrap, gold ribbon and strands of beads. I found my materials in the holiday decoration box at our house.   I made my instrument by putting a handful of dry chick peas and rice into the can. Then I decorated it. One person who helped me with my instrument was my Mom. She helped me by bringing out all of the decorations. The biggest problem I had when making my instrument was deciding how much of the rice and chick peas I should use to get the sound I wanted.
