BEADED DRUM By: Shannon S. My instrument is called the Beaded Drum. I got the idea of a drum by myself, but I got the idea of putting on beads from Mrs. Williams' collection. The materials I used were an ice cream container, a chopstick, a little wiffle ball, paint, beads, and ribbon. I got the ice cream container from my basement and the chopstick from the kitchen drawer. I don't remember where I got the ball. The paint was from Michael's, and the beads and ribbon were from a cabinet. All I needed was a paintbrush, a hot glue gun and my hands. The first step I used to build my instrument was to take the handle off the ice cream container. Then I glued the ball, chopstick and ribbon together to make the drumstick. I decorated the drum by painting the ice cream container green and blue and gluing beads around the edge. My instrument belongs to the percussion family. I play it by hitting it with my drumstick. It can make two different sounds when I hit it with different ends of the drumstick. My drum plays a low sound. My drum plays loudly. My dad helped me make my instrument by driving me to get the paint and my mom helped my find the things around the house. The biggest problem in making my instrument was painting the edge of the lid. I couldn't keep it on the table; I would get paint all over. If I held the rim I wouldn't get to paint that part. So, I held the bottom of the lid. |
