The Broken Chimes

THE BROKEN CHIMES

BY:  Bradley C.

The name of my instrument is The Broken Chimes.  I got the idea of making this instrument because it was an assignment that was given.  I used lead pipes, fishing line, wood, and nails.  I needed to use a hammer, a power saw, and paint.

First, I went to Home Depot to get the wood.  Second, I bought the wood.  I cut the wood, drilled some holes, nailed it in, got fishing line, put it through the holes, cut some old lead pipes, put holes in them, saved two for mallets, put the fishing line through the pipes that I had lined up in my desired order, and Finally, I tied them and painted them.

My instrument belongs to the percussion family.  My chimes make a dinging sound.  The sound is produced by hitting a pipe with a mallet.  My instrument can make four different types of sounds. The tone of my sound is "Daauaauah!"  My sound's volume and pitch changes with the pipes you hit.

My dad was a big help in making my instrument.  He cut the pipes and the wood.  The only problem making the instrument was the amount of time we had to build it.
