The Light Saber

THE LIGHT SABER

By: Daniel C.

I named my instrument The Light Saber. I got the idea of making it one night while I was watching T.V. I used pvc pipe, pvc caps, corn, beads, nails, duct tape, and Christmas lights. I got my 5ft pvc pipe from Lowes and bought caps to put in the ends. I got the duct tape from my basement.  I also got the Christmas Lights and nails from my basement.  The beads and corn came from my kitchen. The only tool I needed were scissors to cut the duct tape.

I first drilled the nails into the pvc pipe and then put in the corn and beads. I sealed the both ends with the caps and duct tape. I then wrapped the pvc pipe in duct tape and then wrapped the Christmas lights around the pvc pipe. I used an extension cord to plug the Christmas lights in.

My Light Saber is part of the Percussion Family. The sound that it makes is like a soft raining sound. My instrument can make multiple sounds, it all depends on how fast you tilt it. It also can make a maraca sound. It almost sounds like you are outside when it is drizzling. The Light Saber makes a loud sound when you tilt or shake it hard.

My neighbor helped me wrap the duct tape and Christmas lights while my mom helped me get the pvc pipe. The biggest problem I had with making my instrument was when I couldn't figure out how to make the Christmas lights stay on with out using to many pieces of duct tape.
