MULTI-PURPOSE CHAIN
DRUM By: Bryce C. My instrument is called The
Multi-Purpose Chain Drum. I creatively thought up the idea
of my instrument all by myself. To make my instrument
I used a gallon bucket and wood (from China). Also, I used
an old dog leash. And I used regular black screws that I
found in my basement. And I already had the chain. But to
obtain my materials I mostly went to my step-dad's shop. To
assemble my instrument I used an electric saw, drill, and
spray paint. In the process of building my homemade
instrument, first I got the bucket. Then, I cut out the
pieces of wood, spray painted them, and drilled them to the
top and bottom of the large gallon bucket. Then I applied
the contact paper and flame design. Then, I drilled in the
neck holder, which is really just an old dog leash. To
finish it all up I covered two paint stirrer sticks entirely
with black electrical tape. My instrument belongs to the
percussion family because my instrument makes kind of a
shaky bang sound. Either banging on the wooden top produces
the sound, or you can string the sticks along the side of
the bucket where the chains are. You can even bang on the
side of the bucket itself. My instrument can make up to 5
sounds. The quality of my instrument's sound is kind of a
loud booming sound. Also, the sound can be as loud or as
soft as you want it depending on how hard you strike
it. My mom's boyfriend helped me
construct the instrument itself. He helped by getting me
mostly all of the materials. The biggest problem with making
my instrument was probably cutting out the wooden circles
that I put on the top and bottom of the
bucket.
