The Square Triangle

THE SQUARE TRIANGLE

By: Bri Y.

My instrument is called The Square Triangle.   I got the idea for making this instrument from myself.  I used wood, a steel rod, paint, nails, and tape.  I obtained my materials from Ace Hardware and I retrieved the wood from my dad's work.  To assemble my instrument, I used a saw, hammer, a red tool that bends metal, and a paintbrush.

The steps that were followed in order to create this masterpiece were:

1) Cut 4 pieces of wood, paint them white, and nail them all together to form a square box.

2) Bend a steel rod to form a triangle and hang it from the top of the inside of the square box. Make sure to also cut a piece off the rod for the mallet.

3) Paint the box.

I decorated this instrument to enhance its appearance by painting the box white and then adding patterns of purple and black to the sides of it.

The Square Triangle belongs to the percussion family of instruments.  It makes a chiming sound by the collision of the steel mallet and the steel triangle.  Unfortunately, it can only make one noise.  It produces a high-pitched sound, which is pretty loud.  It is louder than the normal triangle because of its massive size.

Now, I can't just say I built this all by myself.  I'd have to give credit to my dad for helping me nail the box together and bend the triangle.  The biggest problem we encountered was when we couldn't figure out how to get the holder for the mallet screwed into place because the size of the screwdriver was just a little bit to big to fit into the square box.
